Conté and Charcoal on newsprint paper, 18 x 24
looking back to Asheville, NC in 2003 when i did my first figure drawings, they were rough and out of proportion. my strokes were fuzzy, undefined, and lacked confidence. i was blindly trying to find my way around. the other students were doing so well on their first few days. i became discouraged, but in hindsight, i shouldn’t have compared myself with the other students because everyone has his private obstacles and challenges to tackle. anyway, no point crying over spilled milk.
fast forward to tonight. i’m very proud and happy with this one, and i feel i have made great personal progress. i hope i’ll make equal progress with my handling of colors and values. i’m determined to excel, and to prove to myself that i can do this. i’m very excited 😊
